MacBook Pro asking me to Reset Password on boot-up??

I downloaded the latest upgrade a few weeks ago to my 2010 MacBook Pro and kept getting the password reset message. Who knew it was because I couldn’t see the screen and was likely hitting keys to try to get it to work. I was BAFFLED until I read this thread. Holy crap, the flashlight fix worked. That’s just crazy!

I just had the same problem and after a moment of panic I tried NVRAM reset and it works

IT WORKED! Out of all the forums I’ve read THIS WORKED! Shine your flashlight through the Apple logo in the back and start up the laptop. It shows your login screen! Amazing! I was literally about to scrap a $6,000 worth laptop after all the programming and adds to it, you saved my life! Honestly thought I was **** out of luck. It went out on me a day ago.

This legit works. I thought it was a big joke but I tired it anyway, not expecting it to work. I just shined my iPhone flashlight from the back of the Apple logo and it worked.

Thanks sooo much for posting the question and for all the answers. Had the same problem, almost scrapped my 2010 MacBook Pro that I had supercharged with a new ssd drive. Could not believe this worked, BUT it did!!! Did anyone encounter the same problem again???

I just couldn’t understand after the latest Apple is upgrade for my MacBook Pro why I just got a blank screen (laptop appearing to be off, no lights or sounds) and after forced reboot (many times) either resulted in a blank screen or asking me to reset password. Then going back to a blank screen on reboot. Your advice is a saviour, thank you so much. I would never have thought to shine a torch on the screen! But once signed in properly (via the torch) all back to normal. Very bizarre but thank you again. All the best John

I honestly can't believe the flashlight trick worked! I was on the phone with apple support for an hour and a half and even scheduled a genius appt for the next day. Has anyone figured out why this happens and the cause behind it? It almost costed me a full tank of gas and two hours of my time not to mention I saved money because we all know apple would have quoted me something outrageous for a simple fix.

Had the problem after Battery ran out.

WOW.. if i had not experienced it myself, I would have considered it a Joke.

For me, it hapenned was when Laptop died after battery was drained.

Hi, how did you manage to remove the tab that is asking to reset password?

Can you please help me out? I keep having the same thing asking me to reset password. No login appears. What l am doing wrong?
